Why we built Bestcarformybudget.comFriday 7th October 2016

This is the first blog title

A word from one of our founders (the one in the middle)

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been passionate about cars. When I was a boy my dad would renovate classic cars as a bit of a hobby. Two of my favourites were the old-school Mercedes SL190 that he managed to buy whilst popping out for a paper, and the Ford Mustang Mach 1 that was so loud the neighbours complained (my sisters weren’t too happy on the school run either).

Although nothing quite compares to the 1988 Aston Martin V8 Volante he had. (I still dream about owning one myself someday.) My dad’s love of cars was infectious and has definitely been passed down to me.

One of my first jobs was at the motoring section for the Sunday Times where I sold advertising space to dealerships and brokers. This job gave me great access to loads of new car deals and it wasn’t long before my friends started asking for advice on what car they should buy.

“What’s the best car I can get for my money?”

Although the people I gave advice to were a mixture of male and female, young and old, they almost always wanted to know the same thing: “what’s the best car I can get for my money?” Everyone had a good idea what they wanted to spend, but the world of car pricing is so mysterious that they wanted my help to work out the best deal they could get for their budget.

As I began to make referrals, I built relationships with various dealerships and brokers, which usually meant that I got access to even better deals. I also built a relationship with an outstanding team of advisors up in Sheffield who shared my passion both for cars and for excellent service.

Over the next 9 years, I worked with them to grow the business from a handful of enquires to hundreds of happy customers.

Most car websites seemed to be aimed at “petrol-heads”

But I always thought it could be something bigger. I could see that there were countless websites, apps, blogs and message boards for car buyers in the UK, but they all seemed to be aimed at “petrol heads”. I thought it was strange that there wasn’t a website - and a service - for buyers like the ones I’d been helping for the last 10 years: buyers who wanted to remove all of the noise and hassle and just find the best car for their budget.

The best car for your budget, delivered to your door

I’m not known for my digital expertise, but fortunately both of my sisters (the other two in the picture) have forged successful careers in the online world and were able to help me turn my ideas into a reality.

It’s been a long road with a few (speed) bumps along the way, but I’m really pleased with what we’ve managed to create: a website which makes it simple to search the best deals in the market and a team of experts who don’t rest until you get the best car for your budget, delivered to your door. We hope you like it.
